While some people dread it, I absolutely love the rain.
This morning as I stepped off the bus onto my dark, dreary University campus… I decided I did not want to fit in today. I chose to not go along with the set speed of the sidewalks, but rather to take my own path. Everybody was hiding underneath their umbrellas, looking down at their feet. Walking a little faster than usual, everybody was stepping around puddles and avoiding the swampy zones. Nobody was talking. Everybody was moving. Everybody was moving fast.
I took the longer way to my class today. I walked slower than usual. My iPod shuffled me the perfect playlist. My feet got wet, and water droplets dripped off my umbrella and down inside the sleeve of my jacket. I enjoyed it. I did not wish the rain away, but rather I chose to savour it.
Today - in this rain - I am stepping back from the frantic pace of this bustling campus, and from the frantic pace of this student life, and I am slowing down. I am giving myself this day to just slow …right… down.
